Position Description

The Idaho Youth Ranch is excitedly looking for a new Ag/Horse Care attendant at our Hands of Promise Campus in Middleton, ID. Horses at this facility have helped hundreds of kids through a therapeutic treatment model called Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and they need the right person to help take care of them! This position is designed for a knowledgeable candidate that enjoys being around horses and caring directly for them.

As the Ag/Horse Care employee you will be responsible for the feeding, watering, and exercising of the horses. You would ensure that the horse areas are clean and safe at all times.

Responsibilities
• Equine Care
o Feed horses
o Ensure adequate water supply
o Observe horses for soundness and general health
o Turn out and exercise horses according to schedule
o Perform or assist with routine animal care such as hoof care, worming, grooming, etc.
o Clean stalls
• Perform manual labor as required i.e. stack hay, haul manure
• Operate equipment such as skid-steer and arena groomer
• Clean and maintain tack and equipment
• Perform other barn chores as directed
• May participate in fair activities, demonstrations or the sale of animals
• Ensures that all animal areas are safe for animals and humans

Must Haves
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One to two years experience working with horses and/or other livestock
• Ability to work independently and productively with minimal supervision.
• Ability to operate a tractor, skid-steer and other farm equipment as needed
• Ability to use a computer for word processing, and spread sheet applications (e.g., familiarity with such software as Microsoft Word and Excel).

Physical Requirements, Mental, Equipment & Working Condition Elements:
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including hot and cold environments regularly.
• Most work is completed utilizing typical trade tools such as:, gas powered equipment, agricultural equipment etc.
• Capable of lifting at least 90 pounds.
• Bend, stoop, and work
• May occasionally work evenings or weekends on special projects or in response to facility emergencies.
